There's good news, however.  Rsync 3.0.0 is in active development,  
runs on Tiger and can preserve all Mac OS X metadata.  The latest  
prerelease version (3.0.0pre9) seems quite stable and free of critical  
bugs, and I expect a full release will be imminent.

A few of us have done checks with Backup Bouncer with encouraging  
results, and I'm now using 3.0.0pre9 to back up my own files.  So far  
so good.

SuperDuper! is great if a full clone of your filesystem is what you  
want, but a bit inflexible when it comes to partial backups.
