Safari or Firefox or ? with Auctiva uploads (eBay)

A neighbor switched to iMac after 20 years using PCs. He LOVES the
iMac. Problem is, he's unable to batch upload (via a java app) his
images to Auctiva (an adjunct service for setting up a collection of
items/store on eBay).
When he first go the iMac, he was able to upload via Safari, but not
via Firefox. He could edit in HTML (online) via Firefox, but not via
Safari. So, while it was a bit confusing, he employed both browsers
to get the job done he used to get done via IE/WinXP.
Recently, the java batch uploader stopped working on Safari. With
Firefox, he gets an alert that the URL is too long. Upon examining
the URL, I discovered the java uploader was taking the IMAGE he wanted
to upload and sticking it in the URL. Safari just says there's an
URL issue with no specifics.
He's had to resort to using his PC again.
I'm fairly certain the problem is with Auctiva's java uploader.

I'm wondering if there are other Auctiva users out there using Macs,
and if so, what's the solution that allows you to batch upload (you
can upload single files via the HTML uploader, but you must use
Auctiva's java uploader for batch uploads)?
so much for "write once ... "
Thanks,
K
