Leopard mail "Get Mail" button

Does the "Get Mail" button work for any of you in Leopard?

I keep the Mail activity indicator open all the time under the list of  
accounts and imap directories. I can click the Get Mail button 'til  
I'm numb and mail never checks mail.

I have 6 imap accounts and 3 pop accounts on various servers. I _do_  
get mail in all of those accounts--I just don't seem to be able to  
force the check. Mail happily checks each account on it's own in the  
time frame set for each account, but I see no evidence that it does so  
when I try to force it.

The same is true when I select "Get All New Mail" or "Get New Mail >"  
from the Mailbox menu. I see no activity.

I also don't see any indication in Console.app that anything is  
happening when I do the above. It's not a big deal since I do get  
mail, but only when I wait for Mail to get it when it wants to and not  
when I want to.
