she bought it a year and a half ago .. and doesn't have the box
anymore .

but , when you go online to buy the upgrade,

the upgrade says:
"Upgrade from Logic Pro 6/7 or Logic Platinum/Gold 5/6"

it doesn't exclude "academic" versions .. in fact, if you search the
entire page
<http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?
productLearnMore=MA797LL/A>

you get zero results for "academic"

yeah ..

I think if the BUY button for the upgrade made it clear that it does
NOT apply to academic versions, then there'd be no beef.

She'd have noticed it etc

but the buy button just says: "Upgrade from Logic Pro 6/7 or Logic
Platinum/Gold 5/6"

and even if her Logic 7 box she paid 500 for a year and a half ago
says non-upgradable, you *could* interpret the buy button on the
current store page to dismiss that as a former policy as there's no
mention of excluding academic purchases.
