upgrading to Logic Studio

A good friend of mine bought the upgrade to Logic Studio for 199 ..
excited about installing it on her DUAL QUAD she recently bought.

Turns out, when she went to upgrade Logic Pro 7, she got the alert
that her version (academic) was not upgradable. She'd spent 500 on
the academic version, 200 on the upgrade.

She called Apple and said she hadn't realized you couldn't upgrade an
academic version and that she'd like to return it .. then she'd buy
the full version , as that's all she really could do.

The Apple rep apparently was not pleasant -- said she couldn't get
her money back and that she'd have to sell it on eBay or Craig's list.

Yeah, the box is opened because she tried to install it.

Needless to say, she's miffed - having just spent a ton of money on a
DUAL QUAD and Cinema .. and other Apple software and gear.

Does anybody know if Apple DOES take back opened software? isn't
there a return policy of 14 days? (restocking fee, I guess).

If she can't return it, anybody know of anyone looking for Logic
Studio upgrade?

Thanks
Kevin
