iMovie 08 madness

I'm trying to keep a positive view regarding iMovie 08 and the
direction Apple might be taking it (being somewhat of an Apple
apologist), but I'm getting flack from several folks I convinced to
upgrade to iLife '08. Everything from "I hate it" to "I'm SOOOO
MAD!" - and it's all about iMovie 08.

Sure, they can still use iMovie 06, but they claim they bought the
upgrade *largely* for iMovie 08 not realizing its numerous shortcomings.

Some basic features are gone: slow/fast motion and audio effects and
other things that Pogue mentions here:
with-imovie-08/>

seem to be consistent with what I'm hearing from users

I have my own complaints regarding capturing, recognition of external
audio devices etc ..

So is the suggestion to stick with iMovie 06 (and its problems) - and
is Apple's decision to leave so much out of iMovie 08 a indication
they want to sell more FCExpress licenses ?

Now that iMovie 08 has been out for over a month, what do people think?

I love the new skimming feature .. and easy export to numerous
formats .. but otherwise, it does leave a lot to be desired.
