I'm backing up a PPC machine (powerbook g4 aluminum) to a LaCie d2
quadra over firewire 800 with no problems at all so far.

I have to admit that I found the restore process to be less than
intuitive (ironically I deleted a folder filled with plans the day
after installing Leopard and had to restore it). I was near panic when
after 4 attempts I still hadn't managed to restore 90+ important
files. Turns out, selecting a folder in Time machine seems only to
restore the folder, not its contents. To get the files inside the
folder, I had to select them all. Seems odd to me, but only after
manually selecting the files themselves, could I restore anything
other than an empty folder.
