What of Time Machine is not working?  It works fine for me.  I just  
cruised back to last week on my $HOME and saw the whole course of  
files that were added and deleted over the last week.  It was rather  
cool.  It's kind of a shame I've excluded Downloads and Desktop from  
my backup, that would have been even more interesting (though not, I  
think, worth the space)

Heck, it even works in Mail.
