'double' message with gmail IMAP?

I think this is just a fact of life when using GMail IMAP. Labels and
Folders don't match up one to one, and so this is one of the side
effects. It's also true when you have more than one label applied to a
message.
As far as the 'message read' flag goes, what I'd expect to happen is
that reading it in one folder will cause the flag to get set back on
Gmail (which I know it does). So, next time the other folder
synchronises with GMail it will get the new read status. It's not
immediate, but it should work itself out.
