But I'm backing up that many.  There are rooms with hundreds and  
hundreds of minis where the optical drives are never used.

and "my preference" matches up how I see mini's being used by the Mac  
people I know.

Of all the minis I know about, only one is used by a newbie user who  
did the BYODKM and uses the machine as their only computer, and that  
was someone who upgraded from some model of Performa.  Everyone else  
the mini is part of a LAN of some sort, whether it is a couple of  
other machines or a huge array of mini blades.

An office down the hall from me is all mini except for their large  
server, and I seriously doubt the opticals on the minis have ever  
been used, and if they have, it's probably been for thing they  
weren't SUPPOSED to be used for (ripping CDs).
