Closing the book on Apple's Mac mini

I think removing the optical drive from the Mac mini wouldn't be
sensible, considering its target market and low-end status. It's
also not in need of any size reduction.

On the other hand, I will be disappointed if Apple put an optical
drive in the MacBook nano (or whatever they call it). I'd definitely
prefer the space to be used for more battery.

With Gigabyte thumb drives, high-speed networking (wireless or
wired), and the powerful Target Disk Mode, I think the need for
optical drives is much reduced.

Of course, an optional external optical drive would be useful for the
majority of user, although I would hope it would be possible to get
buy without one (or more correctly using one on another Mac).

My PowerBook Duo was my favourite Mac, and I managed to survive, even
doing major OS updates without an external floppy drive (or dock).
IIRC, I used the RAM disk - yes, I know, very dicey, but it worked.

Cheers,
Ashley.
