The optical drive isn't optional. It's just possibly external.
One thing a lot of people tend to forget is that the 12" Powerbook
was smaller than the Powerbook Duo
12" Powerbook: 4.6lbs, 1.18" x 10.9" x 8.6"
Duo 2300/100 : 4.8lbw, 1.5" x 10.9" x 8.5"
P'book 2400c : 4.4lbs, 1.9" x 10.5" x 10.5"
