can't find AddressBook data on old machine

Did AddressBook data used to be in a different location?

A friend has an old G4 laptop that doesn't boot; he can only start it in target disk mode.  He's trying to find his address book info so he can copy it to his new laptop.  I told him to copy ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook, and also com.apple.AddressBook.plist, but he says those files are gone from the old machine.

I find this hard to believe, but I confirmed that he was looking in his home directory and not, say, /Library.

Is it possible AddressBook data was in a different place in an older version of OS X?
