windows

I think I read somewhere, some time ago, that a difference between MacOS and (early?) Windows is that on the Mac the windows are owned by the process, making multiple windows easy, but in Windows the process is owned by the window. This why the process's menues are on its window instead of a global menu bar, and why Windows programs are (were?) forced to use the awkward division of a window into multiple panes. I don't know whether this is still true, but I hate to see Mac software mimiking this Windows design error just to look like the leading brand.
