Anybody Use ViaVoice ?

Hello All,
     I just wasted an hour an $9.95 battling my way through the
ramparts of Nuance's 'support' web pages, to be greeted by a
web page that reads:

     System Down. Please contact by telephone and report the issue.

Yes, people, that's 'E-Commerce' for you . . .

The problem I'm having with ViaVoice is in the Setup Assistant.
I get through to the section where it tests the microphone
connection, and tells me the microphone connection is fine.

But when I move on to the Test Microphone Level section, it
tells me that 'Your Audio Level Adjustment must be repeated'.
Rinse, repeat forever, and go in circles . . .

The microphone is an Andrea NC-7100 USB model.

Maybe all I need is a new mike ?    Or should I just cut my
losses and throw the product away ?
