Bit compare folder hierarchy with binary files?

Howdy All,

I need to bit compare (not just modification date and size) two  
folder hierarchies that contain binary files and I can't seem to find  
any utility or application to do it.

Unfortunately these are iMovie/iDVD projects so they are GBs,  
otherwise I would zip them into an archive and do a checksum on the  
file.  Checksumming each file in the hierarchies seems a lot of  
manual work.

Any suggestions?

PS Of course, I am not interested in .DS_* files that may have  
changed, but I am happy to ignore those if a utility finds them -  
this is a one-off task resulting for a disk-spanning burn that fails  
on writing the lead-out but seems to work fine (since I could  
seemingly restore the data).
