well, to clarify ..

I *was* using QTPro 7.1 (a $29 app) to CAPTURE to disk in real-time
TWO independent sources for audio and video.

QTPro 7.2 broke that workflow.

I've said numerous times that if Apple fixes this, I'll return to
that workflow. However, I don't see why this feature can't be
implemented in iMovie.

After all, there IS a preference to set your *voiceover* to an audio
source -- and my MOTU does show up. You'd think this would only work
for overdubbing audio onto an existing movie, but it actually works
when capturing under certain configurations:

If I choose to capture video via the built-in iSight camera, I can
capture audio from the MOTU.

However, as soon as I hook up a camcorder, iMovie dishonors my
preferred audio source: the MOTU .. and grabs audio from the
Camcorder - OUCH!

I think it's a *reasonable* thing to REQUEST (which I've done
numerous times via RADAR) especially given the above - that iMovie
allow us to capture video from a DV camera (preferably HDV) and audio
from an audio interface.

Also, don't forget: iChat (not a PRO app by any stretch of the
imagination), allows me to take video in on my Canon DV and audio in
on my MOTU -
I use it all the time for giving online lessons. So I really don't
think we can argue this is a PRO feature request. The technology is
already in place.

iChat is taking the two independent streams from EXTERNAL firewire
sources and compressing them in real time - sending them over the wire.

And I repeat: I will put up with resorting to QTPro if/when Apple
fixes what they broke.
That said, I think it's reasonable to ask, given the above, for
iMovie to support this.

Why have to capture to disk, then drop the file into iMovie ? It's a
waste of time. It's not the simplicity and ease of use we've come to
expect from Apple.

Additionally, I would like iMovie to return support for Audio Units -
or make it easy to "SEND" video to Garageband if that's what they
intend us to do for audio work.

this has been broken since July 11th ...
I was using it daily for work ...
I'm trying to be patient :-)

yeah - that's what I'm waiting for - I've asked dev relations for
escalation on this

can you ? does iLife 08 work with QT7.1 ?

I thought all the new apps require 7.2 ?

Today, I'm looking at installing Tiger on a new hard drive .. just so
I can capture using QT 7.1
