Thanks ....

BTW: iChat works in that I can set iChat to use my Canon DV camera as
the video source (Firewire) and my MOTU 896HD audio interface
(Firewire) as the audio source.

Maybe I just need to grab one of those utilities that records my
iChat/iSight session .. perhaps I can get it to record the input
stream(s) ---

"Finally, an easy way to record your iChat audio and video chats.
Conference Recorder is an add-on for iChat AV which automatically
transforms your conference sessions into QuickTime movies. "

Conference Recorder is great for lessons, interviews, video podcasts
or just having fun.
then send the file to iMovie for editing ?

Just to remind those who think I'm nuts - I tried a workaround and
compromise: I opted to take the analog output of the MOTU and send
it into the camcorder. The analog audio is then sampled by the
camera (ouch!) ..

iMovie will capture this.

The sound sucks.

It's hissy and has other audio issues.

I looked for EQ and audio plugins such as reverb in iMovie 08 (we had
them in iMovie 6).

Can't find them. (maybe I'm blind, but I can't find the effects we
once had in iMovie 6).

So, I exported the movie and dropped it into Logic Pro for audio
sweetening.

When done sweetening, I tried to "Export audio to Movie". It didn't
work. I then discovered this is known bug (for some 8+ months) with
Logic Pro.

I then saved out the audio as an audio only .aif file.

I dropped the original movie into Garageband ...
dropped the Logic Pro audio file into Garageband
muted the original audio track in the movie
then shared out the movie via GB.

So oddly, I resorted to "consumer" apps to do what some think is a
"pro" process.

I could probably get away with going directly from iMovie into
Garageband .. as GB has some good quality effects these days.

Still, the audio is not great since I have to have the f____ camera
do the sampling.

If QTPro gets fixed (and if it supports HDV sources along with audio
sources over firewire), then I'll go back to that workflow ..
drop the capture into iMovie and edit there.

I attended the Final Cut Studio 2 traveling seminar. I was stunned
by the quality of the software .. and in particular, the workflow.

Given music/video production is merging quite quickly (people I know
are more interested in doing music-videos than just recording their
music), would be nice to see better integration among components in
the system.
