there's a "Note:" at the end of the instructions:
===============================
Upgrading an email-only account or Family Pack sub-account to a
full .Mac membership
If you have an email-only account or a Family Pack sub-account, you
can upgrade to a full .Mac membership at any time.
To upgrade to a full .Mac membership:
If you're not already logged in to .Mac, go to www.mac.com, and log in.
Click Account in the left column of the .Mac homepage, and then
confirm your login.
On the Account Settings page, click Join Now and follow the onscreen
instructions.
**** Note: If you purchased a .Mac retail box, you can use your
current member name and password when you activate your full .Mac
membership.
=================================
it appears if you did NOT purchase a .Mac retail box and you had
purchased dot mac online (like many of us), then you can't use your
"current member name and password".
ah ! makes perfect sense :-(
so all 4 of my "email-only" accounts are ineligible for upgrade since
I purchased my full account and my extended/email-only accounts via
www.mac.com ?
from the upgrade panel at dot mac:
"To upgrade your account, please provide the following information
and click continue.
First name
Last name
Current email address
** Please enter an email address that is not .Mac. "
========================================
I hope I'm completely misunderstanding something here.
