OT? Reliability of dual-layer DVD+R media

As I sit here writting a DVD+R I'm wondering how it fares as archival storage.

I'm a photographer. I back up images to RAID but I still move my best
work off site. I'm always wrestling with best media to do the job.

If you wrestle with this issue, and maybe have a solution, I'd
appreciate your sharing. Since software needs to live long lives too,
if your a developer, I thought folks here might have a different point
of view than the more traditional photographic crowd.
