Choice at what cost, however? Since so much is being done inside the
video card these days, and it looks like the rate at which it's
happening has begun to accelerate, the amount of engineering required
to support all those cards will rise rapidly.
Are you willing to forego video acceleration? Crappy third-party
drivers with all the issues they bring to the table?
If you're a gamer then buy a gaming system and be done with it.
However if you want a video card to match the software your system is
engineered to use: Aperture, FCP Studio, Motion, etc then having a few
cards that are used as well as possible would seem to be better than
having a lot of cards that either work but slowly or cause system
crashes.
There's no free lunch here.
