You could be right, 8mm is pretty small.  Still, there is a harshness  
to HD that isn't there in film.  I liken it to the look of early  
computer generated animation with the current state.  What have then  
done but soften up the 'digital' look to give a more 'realistic' look  
to films like Shrek or Happy Feet.
