some movies are made by great photographers, and for those i look
forward to 1080p someday; for now i try to go to the theatre to
see the special films; i also attend monthly viewings of my
neighbor's brakhage collection; so far no video process is
anything like the real experience of an 8 or 16mm brakhage film,
even on a low-end projector in a poorly arranged living room; the
frame-to-frame cadence, the extremely wide dynamic range, even
some of the colors, simply can't be matched
but for most films i'm satisfied with a scratchy library DVD on
my regressive scan thrift-store player and $10 craigslist RCA
tube; heck, for TV i watch only broadcast through a mediocre
antenna in my attic
i think my music habits are similarly diverse; for some music i
quite _like_ the clicks and pops on old vinyl; some other music
is very hard to enjoy with any distractions, and some music (e.g.
bluegrass) i enjoy best live
