Well, there are a lot of aspects to .Mac that would argue Apple  
considers it an extension to the OS.   Including what most annoys me,  
i.e. paying one big chunk once a year being the only option, too much  
like a software subscription.  Fair value just a PITA.   They don't  
market their service like anyone else, it's all about leveraging OS  
and platform features.   Just saying.
