The performance improvements were in theory in version 1.1 and they  
didn't fly on my dual G5. At all.

Really? from whom? I will tell you when mine

1) imports my silly 11.000 photos from iPhoto right without crashing  
in my new dual Xeon test unit
2) then, finishes optimizing the thumbnails

until then, even if I just go with number 2 and a partial iPhoto  
import, it's unusable.

I like Aperture. I just don't like how sluggish it is. In theory it's  
going to fly on the Mac Pro, but I still have not been able to test  
it because 1 and 2.
