Nothing. Same behavior.

If I plug the speakers into the headphone port on the front of the
machine that appears to work, However, ther is no Line IN on that
port, so I can't use my headset for phone calls since the Line Out on
the back would not play well with a headset (especially since it
seems to be locked at full volume).

Incredible! One of the worst performances of my career and they never
doubted it for a second.
