That is irrelevant.   You should need an amplifier to make use of the  
sound, perhaps, as line level is not that "hot" but there is nothing  
about line level that says that it is a constant level and cannot  
vary.  Volume adjustments can be made to line level outputs (in  
general -- I do not know what the issue is here).
