I'd have to agree with Scott.  It also allows for a place for the  
excess cord length to be put so you have less table clutter with  
extra cord hanging around, and I don't find it hard to use the  
ports.   Granted,  I plugged in some stuff and don't keep plugging  
and unplugging new stuff in the monitor(s).  I use the USB port on  
the front of the computer for stuff I need to exchange a lot.
