why .Mac ?

i'll echo the sentiment -- i bet it's a marginal proposition for 
a lot of us (on this list especially), though it varies what may 
push us over the edge; that is the natural result of Apple 
maximizing its profit

perhaps some users are more gung-ho about .mac; i'm surprised 
Apple hasn't broken the market into more distinct segments with 
different price points (beyond the bandwidth/storage options); 
the cost of simplicity is the service is not a perfect fit for anyone
