Mac as a Gaming Platform?

Sure, that is one option.  However, we've been trying to steer clear  
of games consoles and their high game cost, and instead make better  
use of our Macs.

Yes, I understand that is how it has been but I don't believe it has  
to be the case.  Sure some games require so many keys that a keyboard  
would be useful, but I suggest most would be better off with a  
controller.

As Microsoft aims to develop Windows as a gaming platform (more than  
just a PC that can run games) and Apple courts games, I think having  
a standard controller for the platforms would be a good idea.
