What's a good affordable UPS?

You don't need to use any 3rd-party software to configure a UPS with
a modern Mac. Apple has built the configuration into Mac OS X for UPS
units that can plug in to a USB port on your Mac:
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh2335.html>

I have been using APC's Back-UPS 500 units for years on my Power Mac.
Works great, saves a lot of work, and reduces wear and tear on the
computer.

Apps that cancel quits or cancel shutdown are annoying. Avoid them
and you'll be OK.

Keep in mind that the battery on any UPS will need to be replaced
about every two years.
