It can actually be booted on in Solaris and be used for / in Solaris
in development code and that is the goal for update 4 or 5 on
Solaris. The boot code and stuff now is just development code etc
but you can Google and find references on how to set it up.

I don't disagree but don't know what you are referring to here.

Yes, it is new and is not appropriate for all needs, at least yet.
But software is an evolving thing and ZFS will continue to become
more relevant. There are many uses of it TODAY and more uses will be
added.
So you cannot say "It is not there on Solaris". It is there and
usable for many purposes, but not for all purposes.
Not being perfect now is not the same as not "ready" and means
nothing for OS X. On OS X it is not even available yet except, it
seems, in some dev releases of 10.5 Leopard. Hopefully it makes it
to the release of 10.5. If it does, I think over time it will become
bootable in 10.6 and on 10.7 will be the default OS, as the potential
benefits for OS X are huge. That is 3-4 years or more from 2007,
whenever Leopard is released.
