PPC UB or Intel .os file?

Hello All,
(My first post)

I'm compiling a large(ish) number of .os files into a dynlib:
% g++ -o lib_csnd.dylib -framework python -dynamiclib -
Xlinker ..........
and it's throwing the following exception:

/usr/bin/libtool: for architecture cputype (16777223) cpusubtype (3)
object: /usr/local/lib/libgcc_s.10.4.dylib malformed object (unknown
load command 4)

Perhaps someone on this list has seen it before...
It looks t me like a mismatch between PCC UB and/or Intel .os files
Am I on the right track?

Is there a tool which will allow me to examine a .os file to
determine what architecture it's compiled for?

many thanks,

David
Intel OSX 10.4.10
gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5250)
