Edge cases may not make an argument, but they do make it less than  
black and white.

Besides which, at every turn, you seem to be under the impression  
that I'm arguing *against* using Gestalt().  I have not, and I am  
not.  Using Gestalt() *is* the best way to get the system version  
number (assuming that's really what you need).  But that doesn't mean  
that there aren't circumstances where the file is better---or even  
the *only* way to obtain the information.
