exenting the finder menu

Depending on what you're doing, using Automator may be the easiest  
route. Never having used it  before I was able to whip something up  
in about 2 minutes...something I use regularly now and it saved me  
from having to deal with the whole development process.

If it's something Automator can't handle as-is, I think there's a way  
for you to add actions (or whatever they're called) to Automator  --   
for example, iTunes' eq shows up somehow. So you could code up your  
functionality and have it show in Automator..then build the plugin  
with Automator and have it all be fully supported.

Wish I had more detail for you but it's a thought, anyway.
