Well, I've worked on a cross-platform game engine, though I don't  
know if that's quite the same thing. It doesn't use platform widgets  
at all.

On the other hand, a development system like REALbasic (or I believe  
Qt) does end up using platform widgets.

You need to spill the beans as to which approach you're talking.
