If you're doing Server Admin, it pays to have an external USB drive
with a complete install of MacOSX with Carbon Copy Cloner (and any
recovery tools you pick up on the way) installed. I used to use a 40GB
iPod for this (along with keeping all my music on it, of course) but
any decent USB2 external drives would do.

If you were to arm yourself with one of these, it'll kick the pants
off a live CD. Besides, it's worth it just to try to get your employer
to buy you an iPod. :)
