If you don't mind my asking, what is your intended use for these
systems? (or, perhaps, what *was*, given the above link?)   Even if
you got it to boot, you'd be running a pretty non-standard
configuration.

The choice of Ubuntu for a server application is perhaps not
completely well advised (and yes, I have personal experience using
Ubuntu as a server, along with Gentoo, Debian, and all manner of
Redhat/CentOS.)
