NFS is lightweight, fast and works fine at least up until Tiger  
(can't tell about Leopard). It's weak spot is it's connection-less  
protocol and thereof resulting lack of user authentication. You  
should put a reliable firewall between your NFS shares and the public.

For managing NFS shares Bresink's NFSManager is pretty handy.
