Adobe was using Codewarrior up until a year or two ago and got caught
with their pants down with the move to Intel. "Knowing the platform"
has nothing to do with it.
Much can be explained by lots of little barriers in a company that can
come together in a perfect storm to result in "idiotic" stuff. Even
simple things can throw a monkey wrench in the works. Weird
encapsulation choices (like gziping a .dmg, instead of converting the
dmg to a compressed format) could be because the webserver they have
to work with doesn't understand what mime type to set for a .dmg file,
for example. What can cause that? Old/bad software, incompetent
admins, change control policies...you name it.
