AFP server: idle disconnect

Hey folks,

At a few different network-home-folder installations with Tiger =20
Server and client, I've seen an annoying behavior: if a client force-=20
restarts or doesn't log off properly for whatever reason, the AFP =20
connection to the server will be retained. When the client then =20
restarts and logs back into their home folder, file-locking issues =20
may arise. The only fix I've found is to manually disconnect the =20
original AFP session in Server Admin -- which, of course, the =20
customer needs us to connect in to accomplish.

What a pain! I've been eyeing the AFP settings in Server Admin to =20
disallow client sleeping and to disconnect idle clients. However, =20
since my knowledge of what "sleeping" and "idleness" means is hazy, =20
I'm concerned that a logged-in user will leave their workstation to =20
go to lunch and come back to find their home folder has been logged =20
out and they've lost unsaved changes in documents!

Any thoughts on how to change those settings to resolve this problem?

Thanks!
noam
