Leopard screen sharing

I've read positive evaluations of 10.5's screen sharing; in  
particular that it is reasonably fast. Is this the same technology as  
the VNC built as part of Apple Remote Desktop in 10.4? I currently  
use this VNC for remote workstation access using ChickenOfTheVNC as a  
client. And I don't find this particularly fast even over the gigabit  
ethernet. Is the screen sharing in 10.5 really faster?
