Point taken, although this isn't a production server, but a support  
processing system. We do have it backed up, even though there's  
really nothing much to back up outside the OS. Command-line  
softwareupdate resulted in a segmentation fault. Reinstalling OSX  
10.4 and reapplying patches worked fine, and the system was back  
online in about an hour, with no loss of data. I still suspect the  
v1.0 security update, but it's a moot point now.
