I have used a bunch of different generic ones I bought in Japan and  
they all have had no issues with any device.  I don't know if you can  
get it online or not here in the US but the "Elecom" powered ones I  
have have all been fine including with an Epson Printer/Scanner  
hanging off them.

I happen to be going to Japan again this coming Tuesday.
