That could also account for this delay, assuming >100ms latency and the
Finder getting information on each file in an individual request. However,
is that really any less dumb that what Chris and I believe is happening?

No one here has presented any evidence whatsoever to contradict him. All
I've seen is a few people saying it's not a problem, when it clearly is, or
saying that it has to be that way, when it clearly doesn't. Followed by one
person seemingly pretending that those messages don't exist ;-)
