That's well and good, but Dan is Dan, and Dan is all Dan can be, just like
you can only be Ashley. Projecting your standards onto someone else is an
exercise in frustration, and doomed to failure. You're not going to convince
him to change, nor shall anyone else. Accept that, and either ignore him, or
don't take anything he says personally, because he very rarely means it that
way.
