Changing the default email reader

Hi,

I want to change the default email program in Mac OS X. But  I   
cannot open the Preferences for Mail.app until I setup an account  
with their setup wizard. My company uses Lotus Notes So currently I  
have to put in my personal account and password onto someones  
computer just to change a setting and then go back and remove all the  
info I just provided.

Im pretty new to defaults read/write but I tried using defaults read  
to find the setting but I didn't turn up anything.
