Fink cannot be installed on this computer (Fink on Mac Mini)

The problem was a bug in the Fink installer, which assumes that there's a
minor version such as 10.4.0, so it expects a second '.' in the version
number of the OS.
This can be fixed by modifying the installer script of Fink (or updating the
OS X version should help as well, because all newer version numbers have a
second '.' in it).
