To be honest, your original question had no real meaning other than "All the
ones that use hostconfig and everything with a dependency on them":

" Theres a remote OSX 10.4.10 system that I administor by ssh, and
after I modify /etc/hostconfig, what process do I need to kill -HUP
to have it read up the new settings so I dont have to reboot it."

Since that is really a non-answer, and to be honest, I didn't feel like
playing n00b tag, aka, "What are you specifically trying to do so we can
actually provide a good answer, I rather ignored it. If you're experienced
enough to remote edit /etc/hostconfig, you're experienced enough to ask the
question correctly.

You then lock onto Apple Remote Desktop as an example of something, but it's
not, because not all processes work like Apple Remote Desktop. For example,
if it's a StartupItem, that's a different procedure than if it's a launchd
item.

You then wander off into sshd.plist in LaunchDaemons as an example
of...well, I don't know what, but it was apropos of nothing, and it showed
that you really didn't understand how launchd worked.

Note, that this was your third *reply*, and you STILL hadn't provided the
one bit of info you should have to make things simple: What you were
*specifically* modifying in /etc/hostconfig.

By your next reply, you're now confusing the RemoteDesktopAgent StartupItem
script with Remote Desktop Agent. Here's a tip...it's
/System/Library/StartupItems/RemoteDesktopAgent/RemoteDesktopAgent that
parses /etc/hostconfig, not the Remote Desktop Agent itself. A bit of
RTFM'ing on the boot process in Mac OS X 10.4, and exploring that script
would show you that.

At that point, you're also conflating launchd and StartupItems, which are
two rather different ways of doing the same basic thing. Again, Dan's advice
of RTFM would have been quite helpful to you here, had you followed it.

At the point of this reply, you're way off in snark land, mostly because you
didn't get the answer you want, but here's the thing, and no, I don't
apologize for yelling...

After re-reading the original post and all your replies, I STILL DON'T
FRIGGIN' KNOW WHAT IN THE NAME OF DOG YOU SPECIFICALLY WANT TO FRIGGIN' DO!

Do you THINK, that maybe, just MAYBE, you could stop sniping at Dan
LONG.ENOUGH to tell us what you SPECIFICALLY want to edit in
/etc/hostconfig?

Hmm?

Because then, you might have the time to go and read up on the difference
between StartupItems and launchd items.

question, include relevant details, and you just might get a better answer.
