Can't login

So I was messing about installing some stuff on a separate hard drive
from my boot drive and after I was done installing and playing about,
I went to reboot off my boot drive and instead of getting auto-logged
in to my account, I got a login screen.

Trying to login failed (I know my password), and I was not able to
login to any of the other accounts on the boot drive either.

I booted off the install DVD and reset the password (the password
reset utility only saw the admin user on the boot drive), rebooted,
and STILL couldn't login.

I booted off my backup installation of 10.4 (10.4.7 though) and that
went fine, even though my $HOME is alaised to the home folder on the
regular boot drive.

I can't seem to 'get in' to the boot drive at this point, and am
wondering if there is a way to blow away the NetInfo database and
replace it with the one from my backup, or even just to examine the
netinfo database from that drive instead of the one I am booted off of.
